Whether your goal is to learn practical self-defense, lose weight, improve your overall health, develop a new skill, or simply break away from a traditional gym routine, Range BJJ NYC follows a carefully designed and intentional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum.


Our program is structured to support students at every stage of their journey, from complete beginners with no Jiu-Jitsu experience to advanced practitioners. We believe it is essential that not only your instructor, but you as the student, have a clear understanding of where you are in your development, what milestones you are working toward, and what comes next.


Having a clear roadmap allows you to recognize your strengths, identify areas that need improvement, and train with purpose. From day one, you will know exactly what your next step is and how to progress toward it.


We firmly believe that by completing the requirements at each phase of our curriculum, students gain the technical knowledge, practical experience, and confidence necessary to advance to the next milestone. Progress is not left to guesswork. Your attendance and development are tracked so that both you and your instructor have a clear view of your growth and readiness for advancement.


Our class structure reflects this philosophy. Adult classes are divided into Fundamentals, Intermediate, and Advanced levels to ensure students are learning techniques appropriate to their experience and understanding. Our kids’ program is divided into two age brackets, not only to account for size and strength differences, but also to ensure techniques are introduced in a way that matches each child’s cognitive and emotional development.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is widely regarded as one of the most effective self-defense martial arts in the world. It is based on the understanding that most physical confrontations occur at close range and often end up on the ground.


Through the use of leverage, body positioning, joint locks, and choke holds, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows practitioners to defend themselves and control an opponent without relying on strikes or brute strength. This makes it accessible and effective for people of all sizes and athletic backgrounds.


Beyond physical techniques, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu develops composure, problem-solving skills, and confidence. As students gain experience, that confidence naturally extends beyond the mats and into everyday life.

OUR COMMITMENT

Learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is similar to learning a new language. To understand it fully and apply it effectively, dedication and consistent practice are required. During the first months of training, students focus on building a strong foundation by learning fundamental movements, principles, and positions.


As these fundamentals are practiced and refined, students begin to see techniques come together during live sparring. This process builds not only technical ability, but also a deep sense of confidence in one’s ability to remain calm, focused, and capable under pressure.
