Methodology

Whether your goal is to learn how to defend yourself, lose weight, achieve an incredibly healthy body, learn a new skill, or just change it up from the gym routine, at Range BJJ NYC we follow a carefully designed curriculum. From the new student with no Jiu-Jitsu experience to the more advanced students, we believe it is important that not only your instructor but also YOU, have a clear understanding of where you are in your journey, your belt milestones, and what’s next. The ability to have a clear view of your path, areas you dominate, and areas you need to work on, is of tremendous benefit.

You’ll start your journey knowing exactly what your next step will be and how to get there. We firmly believe that if you complete the necessary requirements in each phase of our process, you will have the necessary knowledge and practice to reach the next milestone in your journey.

You and your instructor will be able to track your attendance and progress until you are ready for your next step.

There is a reason why we break our classes into free introductory privates for students with no prior BJJ experience, fundamentals, and advanced. In the same way, we divide the kids’ program into 2 age brackets, for it is more than just size and weight that play a factor in training BJJ, but the complexity of the techniques and how they are introduced to the kids in each bracket.

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Considered by many the most efficient self-defense martial art, Jiu-Jitsu originates from the understanding that most physical altercations end up at a close distance and consequently on the floor. Through a series of body positioning, choke holds and locks, the efficacy of Jiu-Jitsu relies on giving the practitioners the ability to defend themselves against physical attacks and subdue their opponent without the need for strikes. Most of all, Jiu-Jitsu gives you CONFIDENCE that will permeate in every aspect of your life.

Our commitment

We believe that learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is much like learning a foreign language and to be able to understand and be understood, some dedication is needed. In the same way, during the first months of learning Jiu Jitsu, the student will be acquiring a basic understanding of the fundamental principles and movements of Jiu Jitsu and starting to implement the techniques learned and see them flourish in sparring situations and most importantly, students will feel a tremendous sense of confidence in their ability to defend themselves.

All our students have unlimited access to the school group classes that are appropriate to their skill level.
